Bathroom / Powder Room Lighting Tips
It is important to have good lighting in the bathroom without shadows for make-up application and shaving. The size of the bathroom will decide the lighting requirements.
Traditionally, a fixture is located above the vanity mirror but there are options to add sconces to the side of the mirror and pot lights in the ceiling.
Designers recommend choosing a vanity light that is no longer than the width of the mirror and generally match the color of the fixture to the finish on the taps.
Pot lights can give the room a full, smooth light but tubs and showers should be separately lit. With the advancement in LED technology, there are many energy efficient, low profile styles available.
When selecting light bulbs it is best to use a bulb that offers a high “color rendering index” so that colors are “true” under the light.
